Manchester Futsal Club Goes International: Barcelona Tour a Major Success

Manchester Futsal Club Youth Academy has successfully completed its Barcelona Futsal Tour, marking the official launch of our new Futsal Tour Series - an international programme designed to give our players experience to different futsal cultures, playing styles and environments around the world.

Barcelona was the perfect starting point. Located in Catalonia, one of the strongest futsal regions in Spain, the city represents a deeply rooted futsal culture with clear development pathways and elite standards. For our players and parents, this experience was about more than fixtures. It was about understanding how futsal is lived, structured and developed in one of Europe’s leading regions.

Learning from Elite Environments

A major highlight of the tour was our visit to FC Barcelona Futsal. Our academy players had the opportunity to observe team training environment, witnessing the intensity, discipline and detail required at the highest level of the game.

During the visit, our Academy Director, Ilya Ovechkin, held valuable discussions with Barcelona’s staff to gain insight into their recruitment processes, academy structure and long-term player development pathway. For Manchester Futsal Club, building relationships and learning from elite environments is key to continuously raising standards within our own academy system.

Competing Against Catalan Opposition

On the court, our players were tested against respected local clubs CET10 Futsal and AE Bellsport. These fixtures provided an excellent opportunity to experience the Spanish approach to futsal - technically sharp, tactically intelligent and played at a high tempo.

International competition challenges players in different ways.

It demands quicker decisions, composure under pressure and adaptability to new styles of play. For our academy players, this exposure was invaluable in accelerating their development and broadening their understanding of the game.

Professional Habits & Player Education

The tour was not only about matches. A structured recovery and mobility session reinforced the importance of professionalism, preparation and looking after the body. Being a complete player requires discipline beyond the court, and educating our players on these habits is central to our academy philosophy.

Experiencing these standards within a strong futsal culture further strengthened the message of what it takes to perform consistently at a high level.

Cultural Immersion & Family Experience

Beyond futsal, the tour offered a shared cultural experience for both players and parents. Exploring the city of Barcelona allowed families to immerse themselves in Catalan architecture, atmosphere and lifestyle. These experiences build perspective, maturity and connection within our academy community.

One of the most memorable moments came during an evening fixture where players from both countries mixed together. English and Spanish players interacted, communicated and built friendships through the game.

It was a genuine cultural exchange that highlighted how futsal connects people beyond language and borders.

To conclude the tour, the group attended a Spanish Division Two futsal match, giving everyone further insight into the wider futsal culture in Spain.

The Beginning of Something Bigger

The Barcelona Futsal Tour has been a great success for Manchester Futsal Club Youth Academy and marks the official beginning of our Futsal Tour Series. Barcelona is just the first destination. We are now preparing to expand the series by adding new cities and countries, collaborating with futsal clubs around the world to create meaningful international experiences for our players.
